9 Days Toubkal Mountain Trek

Airport transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight.

8 a.m., departure from Marrakech to Oukaïmeden, the big Moroccan ski resort (2163m), your rendezvous with the team of muleteers. Visit of rock engravings and lunch. Your hike starts in the direction of the Oussirtik valley to reach Imsker (1381m). The trail passes through terraced crops. There is intense activity in these small fields that the Berbers call gardens and that form a green and ocher patchwork on the side of the mountain.

A short ascent, a trail through the seasonal-colored terraces, and you are in Imioughlad (1400m). From there, the trail leaving the crop areas for altitude areas takes you to the tizi n’Tacht (2000m) (tizi means pass).

You are now in a high mountain atmosphere for a few days. Your trail passes through the Tamsoult azibs cirque, high-altitude shepherds occupied during the summer transhumance. Possibility of doing the ADJ (3100m) if conditions permit. You spend the night near a very beautiful village with ocher red earth houses, built on a glacial moraine : Aremd (2060m).

A gentle ascent to Sidi Chamharouch (2275m) and its famous “marabout” (tomb of a holy person). You visit the village where there is intense activity. By following a stream and entering an increasingly mineral world, you reach the Neltner refuge (3200m).

Departure very early for the ascent of Toubkal (4167m). It has no particular technical difficulty, simply at the beginning of the season you need to bring crampons as there may be some snow to cross. On the first section, the trail zigzags through stones. You pass the tizi n’Ouanoums (3700m) before reaching the summit. Great view of the entire Atlas and beyond, the Haouz plain to the north, the Saghro and the Sahara to the south. Picnic before descending to Aremd (2060m) by another path. Lunch upon arrival and free afternoon.

Today, a descent to the village of Aremd (2100m) where you will spend the night. Your path passes by the Marabout of Sidi Chamharouch where Berber women come to pray for children or find a husband.

Final steps in the mountains of the Atlas to reach the famous village of Imlil (1700m). Transfer to Marrakech and night at the hotel.
